January 8th deadline for displaced students to return

December 3, 2018

To: Our Displaced Haven families

From: Larry Bolinger, Chief Education Officer

In the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, it was our desire to do what we could for our families who had to relocate to another place temporarily. We were able to hold your child’s position so you would have the much needed time to take care of your individual situations.

We have said all along that we would hold these positions for as long as we could and would inform you as to when that deadline was determined, and we appreciate your patience as we’ve worked through this process.

Therefore, your student must be present and on campus on January 8th, which is the first day of school after the Christmas Holidays. If not in class that day, we will have to withdraw your student. You may always go in and put in an application for 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, if you believe you will be back in the area later in the year. The waiting lists for some of the upper grades tend to be short. The deadline to have applications in for the 2019-2020 lottery is January 31st for high school and February 28th for K-8. If you already know that you are permanently relocated, please contact your school and inform them so that they may offer that spot to another person who is waiting. As a charter school, budgets are based on full enrollment, which, unfortunately, has governed this decision. I thank you for your understanding.

Welcome to Bay Haven Charter Academy, INC.

North Bay Haven come see who we are!

CEO's Message

Bay Haven Charter Academy, INC.

What do we believe and what are we all about?

Currently, we have 2 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and one high school serving over 3000 students in Bay County.  All of our charter schools are 100% public schools.  Anyone can apply to attend.  If the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available then we are compelled to hold a public lottery, which is audited by Carr, Riggs, Ingram and Associates.  It is 100% fair and transparent for public review.   There has never EVER been ”behind the scenes” preferential selection or rejection of any student.   Never!

We accept all Bay County students, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or special education status (unless they are designated for a center school).  There is no academic requirement for entry.  We take all performance levels of students.  We take students from where they are and elevate them to their highest potential.  We are truly a High Expectations/High Achievement school.  There is no “dumbing down” in our schools.  We believe competition drives higher levels of creativity and performance in education, just like it does in business.  Not every child receives a trophy for showing up.  They need to earn what they receive and we reward this attitude that made America the “Greatest Nation on God’s Green Earth!”  We continue to honor the Valedictorian and Salutatorian and “Top Ten” for academic performance.  We don’t “Level the Playing Field” through manipulation of the system.  We set high standards and expect you to rise to those standards.

We are compelled by state law to teach the FSA (Florida Standard Assessments) which are the controversial Core Curriculum Standards you have read about with just a small number of adjustments.  However, we teach beyond the standards and we firmly believe in setting expectations for our learners based upon a powerful work ethic.  There is a demand for rigor and a process/product based approach.

This is an organization of conservative values and powerful support for our military with the knowledge that not all students go to or need to go to college.  Many need to move toward careers that better suit their life’s goals.  However, our college preparatory program is dynamic with Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses along with a middle school Pre-AP program.  We also offer the SAIL (Studies in Advanced and Innovative Learning) Program in our high school.

North Bay Haven and Bay Haven schools are consistently (for 13 years) ranked in the top 10% of all traditional and charter public schools in the State of Florida.  We have the highest FCAT and EOC (End of Course) exams scores in Bay County every year in practically every subject at every grade level.

Please visit our Foundation site at http://bhcafoundation.org/ to learn more about supporting our schools.

Thank you.
